BMW is particularly active in touring car racing and has many semi-works teams, and BMW M is a group company in charge of research and development.
Looking back on history, in the 1970s BMW competed with Porsche and Ford for championships such as 3.0 CSL, and from the 1980s to the 1990s BMW fought fierce races with rivals Benz, Ford and Audi.
In the mid-1990s, BMW withdrew from the racing world. But in 2012, BMW entered the DTM (German Touring Car Championship) with the M3 Coupe and won the series championship and returned to the throne.
